Mixed Prints Much: Florals and Polka Dots

I am all for mixing prints. If you haven't already gathered that from my previous posts. I love it. So the look I was going for today was a bit of a mash up between floral and spots. And then we've got some leopard going on in the belt. And a Navajo look in the scarf. So all around patterned fun.

I'm not the bragging type but this is the most ultimate score I've ever made at a thrift shop, and I wanted to share it with you. The coat. It's is from Holt Renfrew. It's part Cashmere, Angora and Wool. And it cost me a grand total of $20. It's incredible. When I wear it out its like I'm wearing a bathrobe.  And I love it. The other item I love wholeheartedly in this look is the skirt. The skirt, from Ann Taylor, I share with my mom (its the only Gilmore Girls thing about us).

Meet: Jasper Conran

Let me introduce you.
Readers, Jasper.
Jasper, readers.

There. Now that's settled, lets get to business. My goodness. The moment I laid eyes on Jasper Conran's Spring/Summer 2014 collection, I knew that I was in love. The prints, the skirt lengths, the sheer panels, the collars. Everything about it brought me joy. I must admit that I only just recently discovered this designer when this collection first debuted on the runway in the fall. I did some further research then, digging into some of his past collections, which if I am being honest, did not speak to me the way this one did. The way he mixes patterns in this collection is just brilliant. A pattern mixers dream. Just take a look through some of my favourites. I hope the collection brings you the same happiness it brings me!

If you loved that, check out the entire collection here, put to the music of fellow Canadian, Owen Pallett. A winning combination if there ever was one!

Printed Midi Skirt : Spring 2014 Fashion Must Have

Okay. Ladies. We all know that the hem lines are dropping. And I for one am quite content with that. You know why? Because I am all for the Midi Skirt. I love the long slim midi length ponte skirts. But, I am especially a huge fan of the lovely, June Cleaver-esq super feminine full midi skirts. I mean, how could you not love a June Cleaver look? But the one thing I can't get enough of is the fun prints these midi skirts are coming in too! Here are just a few suggested additions you should have in your closet this spring. And the best thing is, its one stop shopping because guess what, they're all from ASOS!

The Finns know how it's done: Marimekko Spring/Summer 2014

Images Sourced from :

Looking to brighten up your wardrobe a little more this spring with some print and colour? Well let’s just check out how our Finnish friends at Marimekko are doing it.  The bright colours and playful patterns always leave me feeling so warm inside. I know. That sounds cheesy as hell. But I don’t know how else to explain it. There’s something about their colour combinations and whimsical prints that just make me feel instantly happy.  I feel as though we all need to take a page from the Nordic countries and embrace colour and pattern the way they all do.  It is said that they are some of the happiest bunch in the world. Maybe it’s because they know how to rock at little bit of colour and print.

J Crew : Recreate

So. J Crew has a gift when it comes to styling their merchandise. There's just something about the way they are able to pair patterns together that gets me everytime. I recently bought this floral jacquard mini  from J Crew, and scored an excellent deal may I add.  One day while scrolling through pinterest I saw the skirt styled with my favourite black and white striped tee. And thought, damn, if she can rock that look, then so can I! So I paired it with my new tee from h&m and just like that, the look was complete.

5 Brilliantly Patterned One Piece Swimsuits

Okay. So. Everyone is on vacation for reading week, or is planning a March break getaway and I am stuck here freezing in Toronto. I'm left here thinking the only way I can cope with this winter is to pretend I'm going on a beach getaway too. So I am bringing you my top five one piece swimsuits, all beautifully patterned of course.  I feel like the one piece is having a comeback. A few years ago I could never find a beautiful one piece. Now they're all the rage and that I am thankful for. Having swam all my life I feel most comfortable in a one piece. Not only are they classic, modest and elegant, a one piece can look great on pretty much every body type! Some of these have built in belts or are cut in such a way that compliment every woman's curves. Now go on! Get out there and soak up those rays!

Hello Breton Stripes!

Classified as a cotton white top with horizontal stripes, the breton striped shirt dates back to 1858. It was at this time that the breton stripe was being worn by the French Navy.  Long story short, Coco Chanel took a trip to southern France and was so inspired by the stripes that she then incorporated them into her 1917 nautical collection, and the rest is history.

The breton stripe. This versatile stripe, I tend to consider a neutral these days. Mixing it with other fun patterned bottoms creates an interesting outfit with minimal effort. I’m trying to be more daring when it comes to outfits lately. I’m trying to say to hell with the rules of fashion and just throw on what I like and that’s that. After all the whole point of fashion is to express yourself through your clothes, so why restrict your creative freedom?

I find it incredible that every year come mid-February when spring merchandise rolls out onto the sales floor this iconic pattern can be found in abundance. It comes just at a time when everyone is sick of winter and it gives them hope that spring is around the corner. I know that when I see this stripe in the store I immediately start to mentally plan my summer adventure. I always conjure up images of myself somewhere warm, and coastal, enjoying some gelato, listening to street musicians, as I walk with a bounce in my step. I can’t help thinking of the end of school term when I see this stripe too. I think of how at terms end, I’ll be able to wear this out, with no jacket. My beautiful stripes exposed to all and no longer hidden under the burden of a heavy woolen coat! Ahh. It’s amazing what a simple white stripe shirt can do.

Here’s to the Breton stripe. For keeping us hopeful in those bitter cold months of February, and restoring that summer glimmer in our eyes.
